How to send a direct message on Twitter

Matty Erickson 3 min read

To send a direct message on Twitter, you will need to log into your account and click on the messages icon. From there, you can type in the name of the person you want to message or select them from your list of followers. Once you have found the person you want to message, simply type out your message and hit send! If the person you are messaging is not following you, they will receive a notification that you have sent them a message and they can choose to accept or decline it. That’s all there is to sending a direct message on Twitter.

If you’re looking to send a private message to someone on Twitter, Direct Messages (DM) are the way to go. You can only send a DM to someone who follows you, but that person doesn’t necessarily have to be following you back. Here’s how to get started sending DMs:

  1. Log in to your Twitter account and click on the Messages icon. It’s the little envelope in the top navigation bar.
  2. Type the name of the person you want to message into the “To” field. You can also start typing their name and Twitter will autocomplete it for you.
  3. Write out your message in the “Message” box.
  4. Hit “Send Message” and your DM will be on its way!

If the person you’re trying to message isn’t following you, they’ll get a notification that you’ve sent them a DM. They can choose to accept or decline it.

How to message someone on twitter

If you want to send a private message to someone on Twitter, you will need to use the direct message, or DM, feature. To do this, go to the profile of the person you want to message and click on the messages icon. This will bring up a new window where you can type out your message. Before sending it, you can also choose to add a photo or video. Keep in mind that the person you’re sending the message to will need to follow you in order for you to be able to message them.

The difference between a direct message and a public tweet

A direct message, or DM, is a private message that you can send to someone on Twitter. In order to message someone, they will need to be following you. The person you’re sending the message to does not have to be following you back, but they will need to follow you in order for you to direct message them. A public tweet is a message that anyone on Twitter can see, regardless of whether or not they follow you.

You can tell if a message is a direct message by looking for the little envelope icon next to it. If the message has this icon, it means that it’s a direct message and only visible to you and the person you’re messaging.

Ways to get someone’s attention on Twitter

If you want to get someone’s attention on Twitter, there are a few things you can do. You can tag them in a tweet by using the “@” symbol followed by their username. You can also try sending them a direct message. Keep in mind that the person you’re trying to reach will need to be following you in order for you to message them. You can also try mentioning them in a tweet. To do this, simply type out their username preceded by the “@” symbol.

Another way to get someone’s attention on Twitter is to retweet one of their tweets. When you retweet someone, their username appears on your profile and they get a notification that you’ve retweeted them. This is a great way to start a conversation with someone or to show them that you’re interested in what they have to say.
