Why you might want to change your name on Twitter

Matty Erickson 3 min read

There are a number of reasons why you might want to consider changing your name on Twitter. Perhaps you’ve changed your name in real life and want your online persona to match. Maybe you’re trying to rebrand yourself or start fresh with a new social media profile. Or maybe you simply don’t like the name you chose when you first signed up for Twitter and want to choose something new.

Whatever your reason, changing your name on Twitter is relatively easy to do. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to your Twitter account and click on the profile icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Click on “Edit Profile” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Under “Name,” delete your current name and enter the new name you want to use.
  4. Click “Save changes” at the bottom of the page.

And that’s it! Your new name will now be reflected on your Twitter profile. Keep in mind that you can only change your name once every 30 days, so choose wisely.

How to change name on twitter

There are a number of reasons why you might want to consider changing your name on Twitter. Perhaps you’ve changed your name in real life and want your online persona to match. Maybe you’re trying to rebrand yourself or start fresh with a new social media profile. Or maybe you simply don’t like the name you chose when you first signed up for Twitter and want to choose something new.

How to choose a new name for your Twitter account

Before you change your name on Twitter, it’s important to choose a new name that is both available and appropriate. Keep the following in mind:

  1. Your name can only be up to 50 characters long.
  2. Your name can’t include any punctuation or symbols.
  3. You can’t use someone else’s name or trademark in your name.

Once you’ve chosen a new name, make sure it’s available by checking the Twitter name availability tool. If your new name is available, congrats! You can proceed with changing your name on Twitter. If not, you’ll need to keep brainstorming until you find a name that works.

What to do if you’re not happy with your new name on Twitter

If you change your name on Twitter and then decide you don’t like it, you can always change it back. Remember, though, that you can only change your name once every 30 days, so choose wisely.

If you want to change your name more frequently than that, you might want to consider creating a new Twitter account with your desired name and then transferring your followers to the new account. This process is a bit more involved, but it will allow you to change your name as often as you like.

What to do after you’ve changed your name on Twitter

Once you’ve successfully changed your name on Twitter, there are a few things you should do to make sure your followers can still find you. First, update your profile bio and header photo with your new name. This will help people who are searching for you on Twitter. Second, Tweet out a message letting your followers know that you’ve changed your name. Include a link to your new profile so people can easily find you.

Finally, don’t forget to update your name on other social media platforms and websites that are linked to your Twitter account. This way, people who are looking for you online will be able to find you no matter where they look.
