LeBron James’ BEST ‘Big Three’ teams ever, ranked

Sarah Jacobson 4 min read

As LeBron James enters his 15th NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers star is already thinking ahead to what team he wants to play for in his final year. One of the teams that has been mentioned most often is the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James is one of the most accomplished players in NBA history. He has won three championships, four MVP awards, and two Olympic gold medals. Read more in detail here: lebron james accomplishments.

In his remarkable NBA career, LeBron James has been fortunate enough to be a member of a couple of the best championship teams. LeBron James has been a member of a great trio not once, not twice, but three times now, with the Los Angeles Lakers bringing in former MVP Russell Westbrook to join the four-time MVP and 2012 NBA Draft first overall selection Anthony Davis.

While this all-new trio has a lot of star power, we can’t forget that LeBron’s prior teams with the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers were also formidable threesomes. Let’s rate all three of James’ celebrity groups.

3. LBJ-AD-Westbrook

On paper, the Purple & Gold’s new line-up for the 2021-2022 NBA season has the potential to be one of the greatest trios in recent league history. The trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, who have won five MVP awards between them, is as lethal as it gets. Though the current Lakers core is a little top-heavy, the combination of these three superstars will be a problem for the rest of the league in no time.

As much as this trio may win you a title right away, the truth remains that it has yet to be put to the test, which is why we’ve placed it at the bottom of the list. Add in the fact that, despite having only 0 minutes of playing time together thus far, you can identify certain faults straight away – something that may be difficult to say about LeBron’s past trios.

Shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting, Last season, the Lakers were 21st in the NBA in three-point shooting. And we’re all aware of Westbrook’s proclivity for erecting a wall of bricks from beyond the arc. As Westbrook in the mix, the Lakers may receive a taste of their own medicine, with opposing teams sag off of the former MVP and leave him alone in the three-point zone.

That said, Laker Nation should be on their feet thanks to Hollywood’s newest “Big Three.” Westbrook’s return to California and Bron and the Brow’s redemption season? Sheesh. This season is going to become a lot more exciting.

LBJ-Kyrie-Love is number two.

Who can forget LeBron’s vow to return to Cleveland and win a championship for the city he loves? In 2016, James kept his promise and established his reputation as one of the greatest athletes to ever represent Cleveland by winning the franchise’s first-ever NBA Championship, as well as the city’s first major sports championship since 1964.

As good as King James was in the 2015-2016 season, he did get some assistance from Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, two of his superstar buddies. Cleveland’s version of the “Big Three” was massive. In two consecutive seasons, this three reached the NBA Finals, winning it all in 2016. After losing a six-game series to the Golden State Warriors in 2015, LeBron, Kyrie, and Kevin embarked on a revenge tour that culminated in a historic comeback in the 2016 NBA Finals after falling down 3-1 to Stephen Curry and the reigning champs.

This group of three worked effectively together. Every night, James and Irving took turns facilitating the basketball, with Love working on the block. Though this particular three-man group isn’t as star-studded as the rest of his ‘Big Threes,’ their chemistry and the people they were surrounded by were exceptional. The Cavs’ great trio will go down in history as one of the finest teams in NBA history, with Ty Lue at the lead and important players like JR Smith, Tristan Thompson, and Matthew Dellavedova.

1. LBJ-Wade-Bosh (LBJ-Wade-Bosh)

Let’s be honest. LeBron James joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in South Beach has to be one of the most compelling stories of the last several decades.

After spending his first seven seasons with the club that selected him first overall in the 2003 draft, James opted to take a break and join forces with Wade, the 2006 Finals MVP, and Bosh, a five-time All-Star. Despite some early setbacks in the form of Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks, the ‘Big Three’ went on to completely dominate the league in the following seasons.

When compared to the two preceding trios, this James-Wade-Bosh trio seems to be the most well-balanced. Wade maintained his own as Miami’s franchise player, while Bosh quietly stamped his status as one of the league’s most versatile power forwards, even if LeBron James was still the brightest among the stars.

This ‘Big Three’ led Miami to three consecutive NBA Finals appearances and two Larry O’Brien trophies. And no other member of the ‘Big Three’ can compare to this final one on that basis alone.
