Jerry West has been a part of the Lakers franchise for almost half his life and he knows that he is not going to be remembered as one of the greatest players in NBA history. The former Laker forward says that people will remember him as a coach and executive, but not as a player.
Jerry West, the man who won more championships than any player in NBA history, is finally getting his due.
The Los Angeles Clippers and basketball icon Jerry West broke ground on their new arena, which will open in time for the 2024-25 season. By the time it opens, the Intuit Dome, as the arena will be known, will include a variety of cutting-edge amenities. None, though, will be more significant than the Clippers’ ability to play a more balanced schedule away from the Los Angeles Lakers.
Following Friday’s historic event, West, who continues to serve as a consultant with the Los Angeles Clippers, spoke with members of the media. He described the new stadium as something that supporters, but especially the team, should be excited about.
Following the Clippers’ groundbreaking ceremony, Jerry West remarked, “The Clippers have been in a wonderful facility, a mainstay.” “However, when you’re the building’s third occupant… I mean, every year we have the worst schedule, and this will enable this club to have a better balanced schedule that is also less demanding on the players. The most essential thing, at the end of the day, is whether or not the fans will appreciate this experience.”
“My goodness, we have the worst schedule every year, and this will enable the club to have a more balanced schedule that is also less demanding on the players. At the end of the day, the most essential thing is that the fans have a good time.”

The Clippers will play five sets of five-in-sevens in the NBA season 2021-22. (a stretch of five games in seven nights). That outnumbers every other club in the league. They’d be able to pick and choose their game days better if they had their own arena, eliminating any difficult periods due to scheduling conflicts.

After decades of playing in the shadow of the Lakers and failing to win an NBA championship, everyone still thinks the Clippers have a chip on their shoulder.
Jerry West was asked the question at his media appearance on Friday.
“My goodness, if you’ve been in this city, the Lakers are arguably the most popular sports team.” West went on to say. “I don’t believe that’s in this timeframe. [Steve Ballmer] desires his own identity, and he has been charitable in his endeavors. If you read the carbon emissions, you’ll see that this construction has been well planned. This is a structure that, if you listen to him speak, reflects who he really is, and it’s incredible. This facility will be incredible for fans, and it will be incredible to walk in every night and see something new.
“I simply believe the timing is ripe for this brand to have their own building.”

The Clippers’ Intuit Dome promotional video has Kawhi Leonard and Paul George as the narrators.
PG: “Let your hair down and shout your heart out with 18,000 of your best friends rooting for your favorite team–”
“Which had better be the Clippers!” says Kawhi.

For whatever reason, Lakers supporters have turned on the Clippers and their crowd. Lakers supporters have been arguing for years that the team should leave Staples Center. Lakers fans are mocking them for it now that they are. Clippers chairman Steve Ballmer made it clear that his team must be doing something right if the opposition is thinking about them.
“There are 30 clubs in the league, plus another 29,” Ballmer said. “And we found one in L.A.,” says the narrator. And we’ve attracted a following. We refer to ourselves as ‘LA Our Way.’ And we’re establishing our own identity and presence. And if the other guys — the other guys’ fans, that is; the players are a different story — feel a bit intimidated, that’s OK. It indicates we’re doing something right.”
The Intuit Dome isn’t set to open until 2024, and although Steve Ballmer is known for his impatience, the Clippers have a bright future ahead of them until and after their much-anticipated new stadium opens.
